According to a recent study, the brains of people with autism allocates more resources to the areas devoted to visual perception, resulting in less activity for the areas used to plan and control the thinking and actions.
These findings may explain why people autism have exceptional eyesight, the researchers at the University of Montreal. analyzed data from 26 studies of brain imaging carried out during more than 15 years and involving 357 autistic subjects and 370 non-autistic.
"Through this meta-analysis we found that autistic children show greater activity in temporal and occipital regions and lower activity in the frontal cortex than non-autistic", said in a news release from the university Fabienne Samson lead author.

According to the study, the finding shows that the autistic brain successfully adapted some of their cognitive functions to reallocate parts of the brain visual perception.
The study appears in the April 4 issue of the journal Human Brain Mapping.
